ABOUT US

Reels Up is led by Jenny Berrisford and Tom Doona: both filmmakers, photographers and education specialists. Separately, they work freelance across the film and creative arts world, telling stories for a wide range of companies, theatres, foundations and fellow creatives. Reels Up was built as a shared mission to tell larger-scale, purpose-driven cinematic stories, and broaden access to professional-grade film production for young people.

I started my film and TV career with a 1st Class Degree in Media and Performance from the University of Salford; also undertaking placements with BBC and ITV, on shows such as Surprise Surprise and Emmerdale. I then went on to work for Into Film and BFI, making award winning shorts with young people all over the UK - one of which was selected for Channel Four Random Acts Broadcast. I then studied a Masters in Film, Television Research and Production at The University of Birmingham, where I obtained a Distinction. While working in Film and TV, I fell in love with telling stories and taking projects from initial concepts to full film productions. I have worked with numerous clients and organisations from the Ann Frank Trust to Manchester International Festival, to create short and long form, story-driven video content. I love working with people to tell their stories.

After graduating with a First Class degree in Film Production from Salford Uni, I started working full time in a high school; freelancing as a filmmaker and photographer in my spare time. I took the leap into full time freelancing a little while later, and have since worked with a huge array of incredible creatives across a wide range of spaces and industries. Collaboration and keen-eyed storytelling are at the core of what I do, and I specialise in working with young people, and within spaces where holistic comfort and engagement are key. I have a lifelong passion for film and theatre, and spend as much time as I possibly can taking in creative art and storytelling, to fuel my own practice and inspiration. Steal like an artist, as they say!

Dr Jo Yee Cheung,

Chief Executive of Olympias Music Foundation

"Working with Tom is a joy. He is friendly, thoughtful and attentive to participants feelings, actively engaging them in the filming process and reassuring those who might be feeling camera shy. I cannot recommend Tom highly enough to individuals or organisations looking for a filmmaker to capture their project."

Film academy students in Chester, 2024

"Jenny helps you find what you're good at and interprets it into our sessions. Tom is super helpful with all aspects of film and teaches us absolutely everything. And they are both lovely people!"

Jonathon Mckee, Project Leader Ann Frank Trust

"Jenny is great to work with. She is a creative and dynamic filmmaker. In her work with our young people and service users, she is attentive and professional. She is able to adapt quickly, working in very different environments, always with the aim to suit the needs of the project."
